Tesla Updates for June 25th: Increase in prices for Model Y, Model S, and Model X, resulting stock drop, and progress on 4680 cell settlement

Model Y, S, and X vehicles from Tesla experience a price hike, causing a drop in stock value, while the 4680 battery settlement receives further attention on June 25th.

In a recent development, Tesla has rolled out an updated version of the Model Y in China, boasting a significant battery upgrade that has increased the electric vehicle's range and performance. The new lithium-ion battery, which boasts improved efficiency, now allows the Long Range AWD version to travel approximately 466 miles (750 km) on a single charge under the Chinese CLTC cycle, up from 447 miles previously. This upgrade also results in enhanced acceleration and efficiency, with the 0-62 mph time reduced from 4.4 to 3.8 seconds for the similar Model 3 variant.

However, as of late July 2025, Tesla has not confirmed the availability of this improved battery capacity for the Model Y in Europe. The 2025 Model Y refresh, which includes a new design and interior features, has been released in China and the US markets, but the upgraded battery with extended range and boosted efficiency is documented only for China so far.

In Europe, the Model Y specifications mostly reflect the existing battery range and performance until any official local release or announcement is made. This means that, for now, the European market is yet to reap the benefits of the battery upgrade that has been well-received in China.

Here's a summary of the current status of the Model Y battery in different regions:

| Region | Model Y Battery Status | Range (CLTC or local) | Performance Notes | |------------|-----------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------| | China | New lithium-ion battery with improved efficiency | 466 miles (750 km) CLTC | Improved acceleration, better efficiency | | Europe | No confirmed rollout of enhanced battery variant yet | Maintains previous range estimates | No announced performance boost as of July 2025 |

As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, the competition between Tesla and other manufacturers, such as Chinese rival BYD, is heating up. With BYD managing to maintain and even increase its sales in the past year, it will be interesting to see how Tesla navigates this competitive landscape in the coming months. The extent to which Tesla demand may be affected by Elon Musk's recent controversies will also become clearer in the near future.

  1. The automotive industry, particularly in China, is witnessing a significant advancement with Tesla's introduction of an improved lithium-ion battery for the Model Y, enhancing both range and performance.
  2. On the other hand, the finance sector may take a close look at Europe, where the Model Y's battery specifications have not been updated to match the Chinese version's extended range and efficiency, thereby impacting Tesla's transportation market share in the region.
  3. As for the technology sector, Tesla's rivals, such as Chinese manufacturer BYD, are keenly observing Tesla's performance in the electric vehicle market, hoping to capitalize on any potential setbacks resulting from Elon Musk's recent controversies.
