Microsoft Announces Network Quality Indicator in Teams for Better Understanding of Interruptions

Microsoft is set to roll out a new feature on its Teams platform, the Network Strength Indicator, which aims to improve virtual interactions by offering practical tools for managing technical variables that impact productivity.

The upcoming rollout, scheduled to start in mid-November 2025 and expected to be completed by the end of the month, will equip users with the means to better understand and manage their connectivity.

The Network Strength Indicator provides real-time feedback on all participants' network conditions during meetings. It rates each user's network connection using a three-bar system: three bars for a "Good" connection, two for "Poor," and one for "Bad." This clear, actionable information replaces the ambiguity that often arises in remote collaboration.

When Teams detects a poor or bad connection, it will proactively suggest actions to help conserve bandwidth and stabilize the call. Users might be prompted to turn off their camera or disable incoming video streams to reduce the load on their network.

This feature is designed to empower users to take immediate steps to improve their meeting experience without having to guess the cause of the problem. It also helps prevent misunderstandings and allows teams to adapt accordingly.

The general availability for all users, including Worldwide and GCC customers, will commence in early December 2025, with completion anticipated by mid-December 2025. All Teams users will be impacted by this general availability.

The Network Strength Indicator will be available to all users, offering them a shared context that can help make virtual meetings on Microsoft Teams more efficient and less frustrating. This feature is poised to make a significant difference in the remote collaboration landscape.
