MG Unveils MGS5 Electric Vehicle for UK, Europe; NZ Distribution Uncertain
MG has unveiled the all-new MGS5 Electric Vehicle (EV), set to hit UK markets next month and other European regions in Q2. Mercedes-Benz New Zealand Limited, based in Auckland, will handle distribution in New Zealand once available.
The MGS5 EV offers three variants: SE Standard Range, SE Long Range, and Trophy Long Range. The SE Standard Range uses a 49kWh battery, providing a range of 211 miles (340km). The SE Long Range and Trophy Long Range models use a 64kWh battery, offering ranges of 298 miles (480km) and 288 miles (464km) respectively.
In the UK, pricing starts at £28,495 (NZ$64,350) for the SE Standard Range, topping out at £33,495 (NZ$75,640) for the Trophy Long Range. MG is exploring an all-wheel-drive dual-motor system producing up to 320kW for the Chinese market equivalent. If it reaches New Zealand, pricing could fall between NZ$45k and NZ$60k.
The UK market MGS5 EV is rear-wheel-drive, powered by a 170kW/350Nm electric motor. While not currently planned for New Zealand, MG's local arm hasn't ruled it out entirely.
The MG MGS5 EV brings a fresh electric option to European markets, with potential for New Zealand distribution. Pricing and availability details for the local market remain uncertain, but enthusiasts can look forward to more news as the vehicle's release approaches.
