Multitude of Robots Deployed at Thalia's Warehouse for Handling Books - Masses of Robots Deployed in Warehouse of Book Retailer Thalia
In a strategic move to expedite book and product deliveries, Thalia Buch GmbH has integrated over 500 robots into their state-of-the-art logistics center in Hörselgau, Thuringia. The center, a joint project with the Rhenus Group, underwent an expansion and technological upgrade to optimize its operations.
The daily operations at the logistics center involve tens of thousands of items being stored and prepared for delivery using an automated storage and retrieval system. The efficiency of the logistics sector is instrumental to Thalia's overall success, according to Marco Rebohm, the company's logistics manager.
Rhenus Warehousing Solutions, a leading global logistics specialist, handled the project's implementation. The partnership between Thalia and Rhenus has been ongoing for almost two decades, and a recent ten-year extension reinforces their collaborative efforts.
The site in Hörselgau, operational since 2011, employs up to 500 individuals at peak times and covers 60,000 square meters. Following the renovation, the site now boasts a new system spread over approximately 8,000 square meters. The system is designed to effectively manage over 240,000 containers and handle various products accordingly.
Thalia is a prominent book retailer employing approximately 6,800 individuals and operating more than 500 stores worldwide. With this new automation system, the company aims to ensure efficient and seamless delivery processes for its customers, both online and offline.
- In light of their commitment to improving efficiency, Thalia Buch GmbH, in collaboration with Rhenus Group, aims to implement a community policy that includes funding for vocational training in technology and business, to equip the current and future logistics workforce with the necessary skills to manage the automation systems and other modern logistics procedures.
