HII Hosts Gen. Eric Smith, Gen X Commandant, at Ingalls Shipbuilding

On September 17, 2025, HII (NYSE: HII) welcomed Gen. Eric Smith, the 39th commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, to its Ingalls Shipbuilding division. The visit provided an opportunity for Gen. Smith, a Gen X leader, to meet with Ingalls leadership and tour the shipyard, including the America-class amphibious assault ships Bougainville (LHA 8) and Fallujah (LHA 9), which are currently under construction.

In September 2024, the U.S. Navy awarded a contract for the construction of three San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ships (LPD 33, LPD 34, and LPD 35) and a contract modification for the fifth America-class amphibious assault ship, Helmand Province (LHA 10), to HII. The amphibious programs at Ingalls Shipbuilding are one of their highest priorities.

In addition to ships, HII extends critical capabilities beyond ships to unmanned systems, cyber, ISR, AI/ML, and synthetic training. The construction of ships at Ingalls Shipbuilding is vital to national interest, as it contributes to the broader importance of amphibious capability to the fleet.

Brian Blanchette, Ingalls Shipbuilding president, expressed pride in the skills and dedication of the Ingalls shipbuilders. HII is a global, all-domain defense provider, with a workforce of 44,000 strong and headquartered in Virginia.
