Lüneburg Police Pioneers Online Interrogations in Lower Saxony

The Lüneburg police directorate, led by President Thomas Ring, is embracing the future of law enforcement. Starting April 1, 2025, the police station in Stade will pioneer online interrogations in Lower Saxony, aiming to streamline case processing and improve efficiency.

This marks the first time online interrogations are being tested in the region. The pilot phase, set to run until September 30, 2025, will focus on simple to medium crimes such as hit-and-run incidents, bodily injury, theft, or property damage. The police ensure these online interviews will be conducted as fairly and thoroughly as in-person ones, without requesting sensitive data like PIN or TAN numbers.

The primary goal is to process cases faster and more cost-effectively. Additionally, the police aim to relieve citizens by integrating video conferences into their daily lives, making the interrogation process more convenient.

The police station in Stade will conduct these online interviews via video conference, with the support of President Thomas Ring. If successful, this pilot phase could pave the way for wider adoption of online interrogations across Lower Saxony, revolutionizing the way law enforcement interacts with citizens.
