Top Ten Employers Seek by Skilled German Workers Revealed

In a survey conducted by the Trendence Institute, a market research institution, it has been discovered that despite the economic struggles in many industries, skilled workers remain in high demand. These workers continue to have the liberty to pick their preferred employers. Interestingly, four car manufacturers have made it into the top ten despite massive job cuts in the industry.

The survey, which is annually conducted by the Trendence Institute, reveals that the quality of jobs, as well as the reputation of an employer, are significant factors in choosing a work placement. The reputation is often influenced by an employer's recruitment efforts, public image, and product perception. Notably, large, well-known companies dominate the ranking. Three public institutions, including the German Armed Forces, the police, and unexpectedly, the Federal Employment Agency, also found their way into the top 25.

In a broader sector comparison, the public sector emerges as the front-runner with 28 percent preference, followed closely by retail at 25 percent, and the automotive industry at 20 percent.

Secure employers from the public sector, such as customs, police, and the Foreign Office, have seen a decline in popularity since the COVID-19 pandemic. For instance, the Federal Employment Agency has dropped from 12th to 22nd place, and customs from 16th to 32nd. On the contrary, retail companies have become more attractive, with DM rising to 8th place after gaining 18 places in two years, and Aldi Süd making it to 12th place. Nonetheless, security remains an essential factor, with skilled workers expressing a preference for innovative and stable employers, particularly those in the automotive industry and retail.

Trendence, a global leader in workforce research, surveyed over 20,000 skilled workers online and asked them to select the employers they would most likely apply to. More than half of the respondents were 35 years old, with a majority having completed apprenticeships, some still undergoing them, and a few having advanced degrees.

Remarkably, the survey shows that Porsche, BMW Group, and Mercedes Benz Group are among the top four employers overall, with the Police being the fourth. This suggests that these automotive companies enjoy significant favor among young, skilled workers in Germany.

In the Trendence Institute's survey, the quality of jobs and an employer's reputation play crucial roles in workers' preferences, often influenced by recruitment efforts, public image, and product perception. Notably, vocational training opportunities and finance are essential factors that skilled workers might consider when choosing a stable and innovative employer, as observed in the high demand for automotive companies like Porsche, BMW Group, and Mercedes Benz Group, which offer vocational training and are at the forefront of technology in the business sector. Thus, these companies provide attractive opportunities for young, skilled German workers.
