LG Innotek and Aeva Partner to Lead Next-Generation LiDAR Market

LG Innotek, a South Korean electronics company, is set to showcase its latest partnership with Aeva, a US-based leader in 4D LiDAR technology, at Aeva Day in New York on Thursday. This strategic alliance, announced in July 2025, positions both companies to be key players in the rapidly growing LiDAR market.

As part of the partnership, LG Innotek has invested up to $50 million in Aeva, securing about a 6% equity stake. The companies have signed a joint development agreement aimed at co-developing future frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) lidar systems by the end of 2027.

The first product LG Innotek will supply to Aeva is an advanced FMCW-based fixed LiDAR module. This module, known as the Atlas Ultra 4D FMCW lidar, can detect objects up to 500 meters away, offering ultra-slim form factor and high-precision sensing capabilities.

Initially, the focus will be on the automotive sector, with LG Innotek supplying these modules to top global passenger vehicle OEMs, with production expected to start by 2027. Beyond automotive applications, the collaboration plans to expand the use of Aeva’s technology to consumer electronics, robotics, and industrial automation sectors.

Aeva's CEO, Soroush Salehian, stated that the joint strategic collaboration emphasizes the growing recognition of FMCW as the future of sensing and perception technology. The module can be embedded behind a vehicle's front windshield, giving automakers greater freedom in vehicle design. Aeva's clients include global automakers such as Daimler Truck.

FMCW technology enables precise distance measurements and accurate velocity detection, making it crucial for autonomous driving safety and vehicle design flexibility. LG Innotek plans to invest further in the LiDAR business, aiming to grow its product lineup and further solidify its role as a total mobility solution provider.

Industry projections suggest that the global LiDAR market will grow from $2.46 billion in 2023 to $15.4 billion by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate of 36 percent. This strategic partnership between LG Innotek and Aeva is poised to play a significant role in this growth, positioning both companies as key leaders in the next generation of lidar sensing technology critical for self-driving vehicles and broader intelligent systems.
