LEGO Revives the Classic GameBoy, Including a Clever Lenticular Display and Cartridges that Click-In
LEGO Announces Release of Life-Sized LEGO Game Boy
Get ready for a blast from the past! The LEGO Group has announced the upcoming release of the LEGO 72046 Nintendo Game Boy, a brick-built replica of the iconic handheld gaming console, set to hit shelves on October 1, 2025.
This meticulously designed set, priced at $60, is a faithful recreation of the original Game Boy, even featuring the curves and button recesses that made the device so recognizable. Measuring 5.5 x 3.5 x 1 inches, it mirrors the dimensions of the real thing.
The LEGO Game Boy comes equipped with a brick-built stand for display, as well as an additional stand for showing off the buildable Game Boy Game Pak cartridges for Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. The set also includes a mono speaker grille, battery housing latch, contrast adjustment button, volume dial, and the inscription "Dot Matrix With Stereo Sound" on the top.
However, while the LEGO Game Boy boasts a semi-functional handheld console with a D-Pad, Start, Select, A, B, and fuchsia B buttons, it does not have the capability to play games. Instead, it displays one of three preset start screens or Game Paks of either of the two included games.
Pre-orders for the LEGO Game Boy are already open, and the set is available for pre-purchase on platforms like Amazon at the listed price. The LEGO Group has also recreated the Game Boy's original commercial and posted it on Instagram, offering a sneak peek at this exciting new product.
Assembling the LEGO Game Boy set is intended to be an enjoyable weekend activity for creative people and kids alike. So, mark your calendars for October 1, 2025, and get ready to relive the nostalgia of the classic handheld gaming machine!
