Latest Chinese Electric Vehicle Showcases Advantage: Official Unveiling of the MG4 EV in China for 2026
The British automotive brand MG is set to make waves in the electric vehicle (EV) industry with the launch of its new model, the MG4, in 2025. The MG4 will come equipped with a semi-solid state battery as standard, making it one of the first mass-market vehicles to adopt this innovative technology.
The MG4, specifically the "Semi-Solid Anxin Edition" or "Semi-Solid-State Safe Core Edition," will be the first vehicle model from MG to feature this cutting-edge battery technology. This announcement was made by SAIC MG, the parent company of MG.
Semi-solid state batteries are known for their energy density, delivering more driving range from similar sized cells compared to conventional batteries. They are also more stable and less prone to leakage and fire risk, thanks to the solid material suspended in a liquid electrolyte they use.
The new MG4 will boast a power output of 120kW and will reportedly feature a single motor driving the rear wheels. The vehicle will also be larger than its predecessor, with a length of 4395 mm, and will sport a rounder and softer styling compared to the previous model.
The MG4 has already been officially unveiled and features short overhangs, redesigned headlights and taillights, 17-inch alloy wheels, and traditional door handles. However, the capacity of the battery has not been revealed yet.
SAIC, the parent company of MG, plans to use its technological knowledge to gain a competitive edge in the EV market. The company hinted at the possibility of the MG4 using a semi-solid state battery, but the exact capacity remains unknown.
Despite the lack of specific details, it is expected that the MG4 with the semi-solid state battery will be affordable, making it an attractive option for consumers looking for an affordable yet high-performing electric vehicle.
The MG4 has already seen success in markets such as New Zealand, Australia, and the UK, and with the introduction of the semi-solid state battery, it is expected to improve its charging speed and range compared to lithium-ion batteries.
As the automotive industry continues to shift towards electrification, the adoption of semi-solid state batteries in mass-market vehicles like the MG4 could be a game-changer. Stay tuned for more updates on the MG4 and its innovative battery technology.
