Kapsch TrafficCom Completes Major North Carolina Toll Project
Kapsch TrafficCom has completed a significant project in North Carolina, USA. The extension of the Triangle Expressway, known as Complete 540 Phase 1, will open for traffic on 25 September at 6am. The project aims to enhance regional connectivity and reduce travel times for commuters and residents.
Kapsch TrafficCom was selected by the North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA) in 2017 to upgrade and modernize the expressway with a comprehensive tolling solution. The company supplied transponders and automatic vehicle identification readers for twelve toll zones to the project. The project also uses Kapsch VRx cameras and nVDC vision-based vehicle detection and classification for easy and barrier-free tolling.
Kapsch TrafficCom's President for North America, JB Kendrick, expressed pride in the company's role in the project and their partnership with NCTA. This is not the first time Kapsch TrafficCom has worked on a major project in the region. In 2017, the North Carolina Turnpike Authority selected a comprehensive tolling solution provider for the Triangle Expressway expansion in Raleigh, N.C., with Kapsch TrafficCom being the chosen entity.
The Complete 540 Phase 1 extension is set to open on 25 September, marking the successful completion of Kapsch TrafficCom's modernization project. The project is expected to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, benefiting both commuters and residents in the region.
