Italian Authorities Arrest Woman With 1kg Heroin in Stomach
Italian authorities have arrested a 46-year-old Nigerian woman at Orio Al Serio Airport, Bergamo, after she arrived from Brussels. The woman, a long-term Italian resident and street vendor, was found to be carrying nearly a kilo of heroin in her stomach.
The heroin, packed in 120 pellets, was destined for the markets in Turin and Sardinia. The woman, who planned to continue her journey to Alghero with another flight, was arrested following a tip-off from Belgian customs to the Anti-Fraud Directorate in Rome. Radiological examinations revealed the illicit cargo in her belly.
The arrest highlights the collaborative efforts of customs authorities across Europe in combating drug trafficking. The woman, who has been residing in Italy since 2013, is now facing charges related to drug smuggling.
