At the recently concluded International Radio Exhibition (IFA) in Berlin, the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) awarded IT security labels to several digital products and services from various companies.

Among the recipients were smartphones from Google and tablets and smartphones from Samsung. The IT security label, which is given to digital products and services not limited to consumer IoT devices or smart home products, serves as an important purchase argument for consumers seeking secure digital solutions.

Samsung Electronics also received the German IT security label for two smart home products at the "Standard" level. In South Korea, these products had previously been certified with the Korean "Certification of IoT Cybersecurity" (CIC) at the same level. The simplified application process for obtaining the German IT security label is available for consumer IoT devices labeled with the Korean CIC at the "Basic" or "Standard" level.

Axis Communications, a manufacturer of speakers, intercom systems, and door controllers, also received recognition for its products in Germany. The company's South Korean CIC label was granted at the "Lite" level for 26 of its products.

Furthermore, mediaBEAM GmbH, a provider of email services, confirmed that its email service meets the requirements of the Technical Directive "Secure Email Transport" (BSI TR-03108). The company's email service was awarded the IT security label as part of the Email Security Year, an initiative by the BSI together with eco - Association of the Internet Industry and Bitkom.

In total, the BSI awarded 148 IT security labels at the IFA. Besides Axis Communications and Samsung Electronics, Google (for smartphones), mediaBEAM (for its email service), and Samsung (for tablets and smartphones) also received additional IT security labels.

Manufacturers can apply for the IT security label voluntarily at the BSI's website. The Recognition Agreement, signed at the IFA, simplifies the recognition of national security markings for Smart Consumer Devices (IoT) between South Korea and Germany, effective immediately. Consumer IoT devices bearing a German IT security label can apply for the CIC label of the "Lite" level in South Korea.

Two manufacturers, Axis Communications and Samsung Electronics, received the first IT security labels according to mutual recognition at the IFA. This marks a significant step forward in the mutual recognition of cybersecurity standards between South Korea and Germany.
