Gamescom 2025 Set to Break Records with Anticipated 370,000 Attendees

The gaming world is gearing up for the upcoming Gamescom event, scheduled to take place next week in Cologne, Germany. This year's edition, themed "Games - Perfect Entertainment," is expected to attract around 370,000 attendees and 1,500 exhibitors, aiming to return to pre-Covid levels [3][1][4].

First held in 2009, Gamescom has grown to become the world's largest trade fair for computer and video games. The event, which takes place at the Koelnmesse convention center, attracts a mix of independent studios and major AAA brands [1]. Last year, 335,000 people attended the event [1].

The 2025 edition will feature games, consoles, and hardware, among other things. Organizers hope to break previous attendance records set in 2019, which was the highest with 373,000 attendees [1]. The exhibition space will increase by 3,000 square meters to 233,000 square meters.

The gaming industry has experienced a boost in demand for consoles, with hardware sales increasing by 17 percent to 1.2 billion euros. The Nintendo Switch console played a significant role in this increase [2]. It is likely that the Nintendo Switch console, although not mentioned specifically, will be showcased during the event due to its impact on the industry.

The event will start with the Gamescom opening show on Tuesday evening, followed by a trade visitor day on Wednesday. The event will be open to the public for four days starting Thursday. Many gaming fans use the event to try out new games.

In the first half of the year, consumers spent approximately 4.6 billion euros on games, hardware, and gaming services, a four percent increase compared to the same period last year. However, computer and video game sales saw a slight decrease of two percent to 2.7 billion euros, attributed to the lack of major new releases during that period. The third market segment, online gaming services like cloud functions, saw a slight increase. The gaming industry's performance varied across different market segments.

The event is a significant opportunity for the gaming industry, given the expected increase in gaming revenue due to the release of major new games in the next months. With Gamescom 2025, the gaming world is set for an exciting week ahead.
