Honda's New Prelude Sparks Sensation in Japan, Boosts Production
Honda's new Prelude has sparked a sensation in Japan, with demand far outstripping initial expectations. The sports car, priced from approximately $41,000, has seen dealers temporarily halt orders due to high demand. Honda is now planning to boost production to meet the overwhelming response.
Initially, Honda aimed to sell 300 Prelude units per month. However, orders have surged to eight times this target within the first month. The limited edition two-tone version, priced at around $43,000, has already sold out. To combat lengthy wait times, Honda is set to increase production.
The Prelude's popularity is driven by middle-aged and senior buyers, with the 50-60 age group being the main demand segment. Popular color choices among Japanese buyers include white (63%), grey (16%), black (11%), and red (10%).
While there's no official word on a U.S. release, the Prelude is expected to hit American markets by late autumn, with a price tag of around $40,000. Meanwhile, a hybrid version is slated for a German introduction in early 2026.
The Honda Prelude's success in Japan has caught Honda off guard, leading to production increases to meet demand. As for the U.S., Prelude enthusiasts can look forward to a late autumn launch, with a price point that mirrors its Japanese counterpart.
