Honda's Iconic Prelude Returns as Hybrid-Electric Sports Coupe in Late 2024
Honda is set to launch its first hybrid-electric sports coupe, the Prelude, in the U.S. by late 2024. This marks the return of the iconic nameplate after 45 years. The Prelude will debut Honda's innovative S+ Shift drive mode and honour its legacy with features like four-wheel steering and the Active Torque Transfer System.
The Prelude's revival is part of Honda's commitment to equipping its popular models with hybrid-electric powertrains. By 2025, Honda will start producing its first EVs based on a new, in-house developed platform at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio. This is a significant step towards Honda's goal of achieving 100% global entry of battery-electric or fuel-cell electric vehicles by 2040.
Last year, over 25% of Honda's total sales were electrified vehicles, a record for the company. Looking ahead, Honda aims to achieve carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities by 2050. While specific details about the electric models planned for production in Ohio are not yet available, Honda's goal is to introduce seven Honda e-Series models globally by 2030.
The Prelude's return signals Honda's commitment to electrifying its lineup and honouring its past while embracing the future. With ambitious goals for electrification and sustainability, Honda is poised to make a significant impact in the global automotive market.
