Hitachi to Transform Welsh Public Transport with Digital Booking System

Transport for Wales (TfW) has chosen Hitachi to revolutionize public transport in Wales. The Japanese tech giant will provide a digital back-office solution enabling customers to plan and book journeys across various modes of transport.

Hitachi's multimodal digital booking system will encompass rail, local bus, fflecsi, TrawsCymru services, micromobility, and demand-based mobility solutions. Users can access this through a user-friendly app, set to launch over the next five years.

Hitachi's expertise in digital ticketing is evident, handling 50 million multimodal transactions daily. TfW aims to leverage this experience to enhance its smaller system. The company will also draw from its work on the Japanese rail network and initiatives in Italy to create a bespoke Mobility as a Service product for Wales.

Hitachi's digital transformation of Welsh public transport is expected to improve customer experience and attract more users, aligning with TfW's goals. By making public transport more accessible and user-friendly, Hitachi aims to boost sustainable travel in Wales.
