In the world of automotive design, balance is key. This is especially true for Hikaru Ubukata, a master of decorative engineering at Yamaha Fine Technologies Co., Ltd., who is currently working on the interior design of Toyota's new model, the Century.

Ubukata's challenge lies in creating ornamental wooden panels that embody the design concept of "comfort and convenience through luxurious simplicity." This requires a delicate blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern sensibility, as he gives physical form to designers' ideas while maintaining the elegance, simplicity, and luxury that define the concept.

The panels, made from three-ply sheets consisting of a 0.2 mm-thick wooden veneer, an aluminum plate, and a backing material, must seamlessly integrate into the overall simplicity of the interior. They are designed to evoke luxury yet ensure comfort and convenience, and must create a simple yet luxurious space that eschews ostentation.

Ubukata's role in the panel development includes choosing materials, finishes, and coating, and setting fabrication methods. The woodworking, painting, and polishing processes draw on the technologies Yamaha has cultivated in the manufacture of grand pianos. The panels undergo a finishing process that includes painting, coating, grinding, and polishing to achieve the desired black tones with sharp aluminum lines.

Tatsuya Sonoda, Design Division General Manager at Yamaha Fine Technologies Co., Ltd., oversees the entire design process for the new Century's interior. Ubukata is responsible for the entire development process of the decorative panels, from the initial mock-up stage to the final steps involving hole drilling and other necessary machining.

The decorative panels in the new Century's instrument panel and traditional tower console are a key element in bringing the interior design concept to life. They are designed to convey a chic, premium feel and complement the overall simplicity of the interior design.

Ubukata noted that the new Century's interior would be a challenging project, but he is up to the task. With his mastery of decorative engineering and Yamaha's expertise in craftsmanship, the new Century's interior is set to be a testament to the harmony of luxury and simplicity.

The manufacturing process of the decorative panels in the new Century involves a delicate blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern sensibility, similar to the balance in the automotive industry between technology and finance.

The automotive industry, symbolized by Toyota in this case, has interconnected components like transportation and design, with the contributions of experts like Ubukata from the field of technology being crucial.

The luxury and simplicity of the new Century's interior, developed by Ubukata, is a testament to the integration of different industries, showcasing the synergy between the automotive, manufacturing, and technology sectors.
