Herford Police Crack Down on E-Scooter Violations, Finds 55 Offenses in 70 Checks
Herford County Police, on Monday, September 29, 2025, conducted a targeted inspection of electric micro-vehicles, focusing on e-scooters and pedelecs. The operation, aimed at enhancing traffic safety and preventing accidents, resulted in numerous violations being detected.
Out of 70 vehicles inspected, a total of 55 violations were found. Unauthorized use of traffic areas, such as sidewalks and pedestrian zones, was penalized 30 times. Ten vehicle users were caught riding against the prescribed direction on bike paths.
Two people were found riding e-scooters together in seven cases, which is against regulations. Five vehicles lacked the required insurance, and in two cases, children under 14 were operating e-scooters. Additionally, one driver was using a smartphone while driving, a dangerous distraction.
The inspections took place on school routes and in pedestrian zones in Herford and Bünde, highlighting the police's commitment to ensuring safety in these critical areas.
