Greifswald's Heating: Citizen Forum to Discuss Off-Grid Heat Supply

Greifswald is set to host a citizen forum on September 15, 2025, at 6:30 PM in the town hall's Citizens' Hall. The event, titled 'Greifswald's Heating', will discuss heat supply routes for districts without network connections. About 70 percent of the city's apartments already benefit from district heating.

The forum will delve into innovative solutions to heat city districts currently off the grid. Proposed technologies include centralized solar thermal systems, bolstered by decentralized power-to-heat installations. These systems, like the largest solar thermal plant in Germany, can already supply around 800 households. Implementation begins in 2023, with operational facilities expected by mid-2023.

Theta Concepts GmbH will present key findings from the planning process. The forum encourages citizen participation, with live polls, questions, and feedback sessions. It aims to showcase municipal heat planning results and engage locals in the conversation.

The Greifswald Heating citizen forum, requiring no registration, offers an opportunity for residents to learn about and contribute to the city's heating future. With about 70 percent of apartments already connected to district heating, the forum focuses on supplying the remaining areas, exploring renewable heat generation and decentralized options.
