Google Photos Introduces AI-Powered Editing and QR Code Sharing
Google Photos is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a series of updates aimed at enhancing the user experience and facilitating easier collaboration. The latest updates include AI-powered suggestions for quick edits, a QR code sharing feature for albums, and a revamped UI.
The redesigned in-app editor offers AI-powered suggestions that combine multiple effects for quick photo edits. With an "AI Enhance" option, users can improve elements like water color, skies, and artistic styles with just one tap. This feature not only makes editing easier but also expands creative possibilities.
Regarding sharing, Google Photos now allows users to generate QR codes for albums, enabling nearby people to instantly view or contribute photos to those albums. This feature is particularly useful during events such as family gatherings, making Google Photos a hub for shared memories rather than just personal storage.
The QR code feature is now available starting May 28, 2023, and will be available on Android devices in June. iOS users can expect the feature later this year. The "Updates" page has replaced the "Sharing" button in Google Photos, providing a full view of new shared albums, photos, and group conversation updates.
In addition to these changes, Google Photos has introduced a "Create" tab that consolidates various AI creative tools like animating still pictures into short videos or transforming photos into styles such as anime or 3D art. However, the core AI-powered photo edits focus on intuitive, combined-effect enhancements and the practical QR code sharing option for easier collaborative album access.
The UI of Google Photos has undergone a slight change, with more important options moved to the top and less used options hidden. Users can browse through AI-powered suggestions and tap on specific parts of a photo for editing. Additionally, the "Collections" tab has replaced the old library, providing a more intuitive and clean look at albums, documents, and more.
Furthermore, users can hide certain people, places, or pets from Memories in Google Photos by navigating to Photos > Settings > Preferences > Memories. Google Photos stores over 9 trillion photos and videos, and it is reportedly preparing for a Material 3 Expressive upgrade. With approximately 1.5 billion users every month, Google Photos continues to be a popular choice for managing and sharing photos.
