Global Illumination by Christie Projectors
In the vibrant city of Medellín, Colombia, the Parque Empresarial El Tesoro shopping mall is home to an extraordinary educational geodesic dome named La Selva. This immersive learning environment, a collaboration between the mall and Lonko Labs, boasts six Christie HS Series projectors, each with 13,500 lumens, providing a captivating visual experience.
La Selva, with its 43-foot (13-meter) diameter and 288-foot (8.5-meter) height, features a negative pressure system and a dome structure that resembles a traditional maloca or jungle dwelling. The project, managed by Rhino Engineers, has proven to be a resounding success, with the light and sound show executed seamlessly and completed on schedule.
The decision to use Christie projectors was based on their reliability and minimal maintenance requirements. The Christie DWU23-HS projectors are strategically positioned to deliver colourful, lifelike imagery on the Arts College's facade, which spans 350 feet in length and 60 feet in height. The projected content at La Selva includes 3D animations of flora and fauna, allowing visitors to interact with various Colombian rainforest species.
Meanwhile, at Osmania University's Arts College in India, the Christie projectors have been integrated to create a new light and sound show. Aura Bright Light India, known for their expertise in combining advanced AV technologies with historic architecture, ensured a seamless blend of modern visuals with the university's history. Knownsense Studios provided creative content expertise, while Lonko Labs, the project's main collaborator, was responsible for creative art direction, 3D modeling and animation, geodesic dome infrastructure, audiovisual integration, and the creation of original music.
The Christie projectors blend to create a 360-degree projected image on a 2,650-square-foot (265-square-meter) surface, with a total resolution of 3,500x3,500 pixels. Multiple audio channels provide surround sound, enhancing the total immersive experience. These installations aim to foster appreciation and preservation of the Colombian rainforests, as well as promote educational experiences that engage and inspire learners.
For detailed, specific information about these installations, it is recommended to consult official Osmania University publications, La Selva dome project technical briefs, or Christie Digital’s case studies directly.
