German Copters DLS Tests Blood Sample Drone, Slashing Transport Times by 60%
German Copters DLS GmbH has successfully tested a drone for transporting blood samples between Osterzgebirge and Dresden. The flight reduces transport times by up to 60% compared to road transport, enabling faster sample evaluation. The drone, monitored by experienced pilot Matea Zivkovic, can navigate around obstacles and has a flight time of about two hours, flying at up to 120 kilometers per hour.
The drone, equipped with three SIM cards for reliable reception, has been transporting around 50 blood samples daily from the Osterzgebirge region to Dresden. The test route has proven successful, paving the way for larger projects across the entire Free State of Saxony. German Copters DLS GmbH aims to obtain permits to fly drones on new routes and eventually deliver samples directly to laboratory windows. The Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport will apply for these permits, further expanding the flight route network of the Dresden company.
The drone project is considered an innovative example of Dresden's hub for technological advancements. It has the potential to revolutionise sample transportation, enabling faster and more efficient evaluation. With the support of the Saxon State Ministry, the project could soon expand across the entire Free State of Saxony.
