Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Electronics and IT Minister, has called upon stakeholders to actively contribute ideas for the next wave of economic reforms. In a recent development, Vaishnaw also announced that the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) rules are set to be published and notified by September 28.

The DPDP regulations are expected to bring much-needed clarity on issues such as consent, data storage, and user rights. Before finalising the rules, one more round of discussions with the industry will be held, ensuring all concerns are addressed. Banks and other stakeholders have been actively involved in discussions to resolve issues like handling funds left in user accounts.

Vaishnaw also highlighted the government's target of enforcing the Online Gaming Act from October 1. The Act, which prohibits all forms of online money games, has been a topic of continuous discussions between the government and the online gaming industry for nearly three years. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act will be implemented from the said date.

However, no information about offshore betting apps or the gaming crackdown was provided in the current paragraph.

Amid global turbulence, Vaishnaw emphasised the need for maintaining focus on growth and self-reliance. He cited recent initiatives in semiconductors and 5G as evidence of India's drive to build resilient talent and technology ecosystems.

It is worth noting that Vaishnaw underlined the government's commitment to the publication of the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, which are scheduled to be published on October 22, 2024. The minister's call for contributions from stakeholders indicates a collaborative approach towards shaping the future of India's digital economy.
