In a warning to the residents, Mayor Yevgeny Naumov has flagged two scam tactics being used by criminals. Some victims receive fake invitations to a video conference allegedly with the mayor, while others are directly called via video, pretending to be in communication with the head of Krasnodar.

"Residents of Krasnodar, stay cautious! Avoid interaction with strangers, refrain from sharing personal data, and never transfer funds. Always double-check the source of messages, especially if a link is included in the communication," Mayor Yevgeny Naumov advised through Telegram.

Moreover, he urged the public to remain vigilant, particularly during holidays when scammers are traditionally active.

A related incident was reported by Rospotrebnadzor, who debunked rumors about water contamination with cholera from Ukraine. According to their data, a resident in the Sverdlovsk region received a text message about a biological attack on Russia originating from Ukraine.

Tips to Spot and Avoid Deepfake Scams:- Unusual pressure: Scammers often apply pressure on victims with threats such as impending fines, arrest warrants, or account seizures.- Video oddities: Identify inconsistencies in the video conference like unnatural blinking, mismatched lip-syncing, or sudden changes in lighting.- Financial demands: Authentic officials never ask for cryptocurrency transfers, digital gift cards, or urgent bank transfers.

To verify the legitimacy of calls, contact the administration directly through official website phone numbers (not those provided by scammers). Be aware that government agencies usually communicate via official channels and not apps like WhatsApp or Telegram for official business.
