France Successfully Refuels E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, Boosting Airborne Surveillance Capabilities

France has taken a significant step towards modernising its airborne surveillance capabilities. The country has successfully conducted refuelling trials with the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, marking a key milestone in its transition from the E-2C Hawkeye. The trials, coordinated between the U.S. and French defence agencies, involved the French Air and Space Force and Navy.

The E-2D, an advanced command-and-control platform, offers improved sensors and supportability compared to its predecessor. It is equipped with the APY-9 radar system, enabling it to track modern threats in diverse environments. The French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) and the French Navy plan to continue these trials and training to support France's transition to the E-2D, with the first aircraft expected to enter service in 2028.

The refuelling trials, conducted during the summer of 20XX, saw the E-2D successfully refuel in-flight with three French tanker platforms - the Rafale, A330 MRTT, and A400M. This achievement demonstrates the E-2D's ability to integrate with existing French assets and extends its endurance, allowing it to remain on station longer for continuous airborne surveillance and battle management.

France, as the second international customer of the E-2D, is set to benefit from this advanced platform's capabilities. The successful refuelling trials pave the way for France's transition to the E-2D, enhancing its ability to conduct multinational operations and maintain air superiority.
