Ford Recalls 338K Explorers Over Sharp Seat Edge Injury Risk
Ford is recalling over 338,000 Ford Explorer vehicles in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico due to a potential injury risk from sharp seat frame edges. The recall affects certain 2017 Ford Explorers manufactured between February 2016 and October 2017.
Ford has received 31 reports of hand injuries from employees at impacted factories in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. The injuries occurred when reaching between the center console and power front seat. The recall affects nearly 312,000 vehicles in the U.S. and federal territories, with thousands more in Mexico and Canada.
Ford dealers will address the issue by installing flocked tape on the exposed edge and tab of the power seat frames. This will prevent any sharp edges that could cause injury.
Ford urges owners of the affected vehicles to contact their local dealers to schedule a free repair. The recall is expected to begin on March 14, 2023. Until then, owners are advised to use caution when reaching between the center console and power front seat.
