Flutterwave once more credited as a leading cross-border payment company globally.
Flutterwave, the leading payments technology company in Africa, has made significant strides in enhancing cross-border payments across the continent. The company's flagship remittance product, Send App, has been instrumental in these advancements, having recently resumed services from Europe to Africa and expanded into the US market.
Following a brief pause in transfers from the EU in June 2024 for maintenance, Flutterwave relaunched the Send App in July 2025. The revamped service now supports transfers from countries including Ireland, France, Germany, and Italy to African nations such as Nigeria, Egypt, Cameroon, and Côte d'Ivoire. The resumption comes with upgraded infrastructure designed for faster processing and stronger security, ensuring transfers are done with speed and confidence.
In addition to this, Flutterwave has obtained 20 additional Money Transmitter Licenses (MTLs), bringing its total direct licenses to 34 across various US states and territories. This expansion allows Flutterwave to operate remittance services independently across a broader US geography. The Send App now supports sending money from the US to Nigeria, Ghana, and Egypt, unlocking new remittance corridors previously unavailable.
The company has also focused on improving the user experience. Streamlined onboarding, including quick ID checks, and diversified payment options are now available, with plans to introduce more options in the future. Users can complete transactions using Visa cards or direct bank transfers, giving the African diaspora greater flexibility.
By targeting regions with large African diaspora populations (Europe and the US), Flutterwave aims to facilitate seamless and cost-effective remittance flows back to African countries, strengthening financial ties and supporting families. Investments in technology ensure transfers are processed more quickly and securely, enhancing user trust and reliability. Acquiring multiple direct Money Transmitter Licenses allows Flutterwave to operate with fewer intermediaries, reducing costs and improving service control.
These efforts align with global trends showing remittance flows to low- and middle-income countries—including many in Africa—reaching an estimated $690 billion by 2025, driven by diaspora commitments.
Flutterwave's commitment to providing reliable payment infrastructure has been recognised with its inclusion in the FXC Top 100 list for two consecutive years. The company's vision and dedication to delivering world-class payment services and infrastructure have been affirmed by FXC Intelligence, and it has also been awarded the "Cross Border Payments" award at the 2025 Africa Tech Summit and the "Most Innovative Company for Europe, Middle East, and Africa" award from Fast Company in 2024.
Flutterwave's mission is to connect the world to Africa and Africa to the world through seamless payments. The company has made significant strides in bridging the gap for Africans to easily access cross-border payments for essential items such as tuition fees and medical bills. With its cross-border solutions designed with the vision to connect Africa to the world and vice versa, Flutterwave is recognised alongside companies like Paypal, Google, and Shopify as leading forces in the cross-border and remittance space.
The company's cross-border capabilities surged in 2024, with almost 50% of businesses on its platform receiving payments from new geographic locations. Flutterwave has established partnerships with payment giants such as AMEX and recently launched a Pay With Bank Transfer option for Ghanaian businesses. With operations now expanded to over 60% of African countries, Flutterwave continues to revolutionise cross-border payments in Africa.
Yewande Akomolafe-Kalu, Associate Vice President of Branding and Storytelling at Flutterwave, commented on the recognition, stating that it reflects Flutterwave's deep commitment to excellence.
