Facebook Tightens Monetization Policies for Pages After Election Probe
Facebook has tightened its monetization policies for Pages. Those found violating new guidelines will lose access to monetization features. The changes follow an investigation into Russian ad activity during the 2016 U.S. election.
Pages now face stricter scrutiny. Automated and manual screening methods are used to detect ineligible content. Violations range from misusing children's characters to promoting drugs or alcohol use, and include controversial topics like debated social issues and violent content.
Upon flagging, Pages will see a warning message. They can appeal if they believe their content should be eligible or have corrected violations. Facebook advises submitting only one appeal at a time. For more information, a link to updated Content Guidelines for Monetization is provided.
The new rules also extend to ads, with a stricter approval process in place to prevent similar behavior seen in the 2016 election. Facebook has also updated its Monetization Eligibility Standards for Instant Articles.
Facebook's move aims to create a safer and more responsible environment for users and advertisers. Pages must now adhere to stricter guidelines to maintain monetization features. The social media giant continues to evolve its policies in response to global events and user feedback.
