EU's New Initiative Encourages Industry-Wide Adoption of Artificial Intelligence

The University of Applied Sciences FOM, in partnership with RWTH Aachen University and TH Cologne, is set to launch a new part-time master's program in September. This program aims to equip experienced specialists and managers from the industrial sector with the skills to drive data-based innovations and optimize value creation processes through AI and digitalization.

The program takes place at the Gummersbach campus, which, according to Marcel Walkowiak, professor at TH Cologne, offers an ideal environment for data-driven thinking. The labs and model factory at TH Cologne, along with the Workshop for Machine Tools (WZL) at RWTH Aachen, provide a realistic, application-oriented, and up-to-date environment for students.

Anas Abdelrazeq, senior engineer at the WZL of RWTH Aachen, highlights the practical modules that integrate real industrial processes into teaching. These modules allow students to simulate real production processes and practically test AI technologies.

The curriculum focuses on teaching value creation process efficiency through data analysis and AI. Students will deepen their understanding of industrial data sources and the associated data management, from machines to processes to products. They will define and execute targeted data analyses as part of the program.

The program is open to all, regardless of gender, and is offered in the Campus-Studium+ format at FOM university centers in Düsseldorf, Cologne, Munich, and Stuttgart. The collaboration between the universities leverages RWTH Aachen's technical expertise in engineering and product development, TH Cologne's applied sciences orientation, and FOM's focus on professional, part-time education.

Although the exact curriculum and modes of teaching in the FOM-RWTH-TH Cologne program are not yet detailed, the related Master of Science in Product Development offered by RWTH Aachen provides a strong academic and practical foundation in product and process optimization. RWTH Aachen also holds expertise in AI application areas, as demonstrated by their seminars on generative AI for research data management.

In conclusion, this part-time master's program offers a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and applied skills in AI and data analysis, enabling industry professionals to optimize value creation processes effectively in their organizations.

The program, launched by the University of Applied Sciences FOM in partnership with RWTH Aachen University and TH Cologne, immerses students in a realistic, application-oriented, and up-to-date environment for AI and digitalization (technology). This Part-time Master's Program is designed to enable experienced specialists and managers to deepen their understanding in artificial-intelligence, allowing them to optimize value creation processes through AI (science).
