Education Minister Julia Willie Hamburg Advocates for the Advancement of Digital Pact II in Lower Saxony

Green Party's Education Minister, Julia Willie Hamburg, has urged the black-red federal government to expedite the implementation of Digital Pact II. While schools in Lower Saxony are largely connected to broadband networks, a substantial portion remains behind in digital development.

As of now, around 3000 applications from Digital Pact I in Lower Saxony are still pending. The proposed relaunch of the program would allocate one billion euros annually for the region.

Minister Hamburg announced that Lower Saxony will implement a social index for distributing funds during this legislative period. This index is currently used in the "Start-Chance" program, and will be employed to determine additional personnel or resources based on social criteria.

In regard to antisemitism, Hamburg has discussed with the Protestant Church the possibility of a joint award for a school seal, a prize previously bestowed solely by the church. She has also expressed openness to suggestions for naming schools after Holocaust victims, although the final decision will be made locally. For example, a "Margit Friedländer School" could serve as a symbolic tribute.

Hamburg does not support the proposal for uniform nationwide summer holidays, citing potential traffic chaos as a concern.

In early summer, a new PISA study is expected. Hamburg anticipates that the measures implemented in recent years will have long-term positive impacts.

Germany, in its pursuit of digital transformation, has launched initiatives like the Digital Pact for Schools. This initiative focuses on improving digital infrastructure and education in schools across the nation, investing in hardware, digital learning platforms, and educator training to boost digital literacy and learning outcomes. While specific details about "Digital Pact II" in Lower Saxony are not available, any local initiatives are likely to align with or complement this comprehensive strategy.

  1. Julia Willie Hamburg, the Education Minister, has proposed the expansion of vocational training programs in digitally disconnected schools within Lower Saxony, in an effort to ensure that all students, regardless of location, receive adequate vocational training in the digital age.
  2. Given the importance of technology in modern politics and general-news, it is prudent for the black-red federal government to accelerate the adoption of Digital Pact II, as advocated by Minister Hamburg, to ensure that all EC countries remain competitive and prepared in the digital vocational training landscape.
