Introducing the Upgraded Blink Video Doorbell (2nd Generation): A Smarter, More Capable Home Security Solution

The latest offering from Blink, an Amazon-owned company, is set to revolutionize home security with the introduction of the Blink Video Doorbell (2nd Generation). Scheduled to start shipping in mid-August in the UK, this new device promises a host of improvements over its predecessor, making it a more capable, smarter, and weather-resistant option for homeowners.

One of the most significant enhancements is the expanded 150° "head-to-toe" field of view, presented in a 1:1 (square) aspect ratio. This means that the device will provide a more comprehensive view of visitors and packages, ensuring that nothing is missed.

The new Video Doorbell 2nd generation also includes advanced person, vehicle, and animal detection with smart alerts. However, these features require a cloud subscription, a service that also provides cloud storage for clips and recordings from Blink devices.

Battery life remains similar in duration, with the newer model using one additional battery (3 AA vs. 2 AA). Despite this, Blink claims that the new device still offers up to 2 years of battery life.

Another notable change is the requirement for a Blink Sync Module to operate. This is included with the new unit and is compatible with existing modules. This change aims to improve the device's smart home compatibility, making it easier to integrate with Amazon Alexa smart home devices.

The Blink Video Doorbell 2nd Generation also boasts improved weatherproofing, rated IP65, making it better suited to withstand rain and weather conditions. The device also features 1080p HD video with integrated HD infrared for enhanced night view.

In terms of design, the new Video Doorbell 2nd generation sports a more stylish and modern look compared to the original.

Priced at £59.99 in the UK, $59.99 in the USA, and €64.99 in the Eurozone, the Blink Video Doorbell 2nd Generation offers a host of improvements over the original at a similar price point, making it an attractive option for those seeking advanced features and better overall coverage.
