The latest iteration of BMW's iX Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) has received significant updates, enhancing its range, performance, and design.
Range Improvements
The entry-level iX xDrive45 now boasts a larger battery with a usable capacity of 94.8 kWh, up from 71 kWh, boosting its official WLTP range from 264 miles to an impressive 374 miles. The xDrive60 model, on the other hand, features a slightly larger battery of 109.1 kWh usable capacity, enabling a WLTP range of 426 miles, outperforming many rivals such as the Volvo EX90. The high-performance M70 model shares the same battery as the xDrive60 but has somewhat reduced range due to its extra power, offering around 365 miles of WLTP range, still an improvement on its predecessor.
Performance Enhancements
Equipped with BMW’s 5th-generation eDrive technology, the updated iX models deliver increased power and efficiency. The flagship iX xDrive60 M Sport Pro produces 544 hp and 765-800 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds with a top speed of 200 km/h. All-wheel drive and more efficient electric motors have improved driving dynamics, offering a more engaging, dynamic driving experience.
Design and Innovations
The new iX features updated aesthetic details, signaling its sportier character, including a redesigned kidney grille with diagonal lines and adaptive LED headlights with enhanced design for better visibility and reduced glare. Charging and Technology
The iX now supports faster charging capability with a maximum DC charging rate of up to 195 kW, allowing adding approximately 217 km (135 miles) of range in just 10 minutes on the high-powered charging network. The iX is one of the few electric SAVs with very large battery packs, and it uses scalable, stand-alone electric vehicle architecture for superior packaging and technology integration compared to EVs derived from existing combustion platforms.
