Powerful electric hypercar, constructed by BYD, set to debut with a striking 3,000 horsepower - shattering existing electric vehicle records.

Electric vehicle manufacturer BYD preparing to unveil a hypercar with nearly 3000 horsepower, setting a new record as the world's most potent electric vehicle.

BYD's Yangwang U9 Hypercar: A Game-Changer in Electric Performance

The electric vehicle (EV) landscape is about to change with the imminent launch of the hypercar variant of the BYD Yangwang U9. This high-performance vehicle is currently undergoing tests at the Nürburgring racetrack, as evidenced by a video posted by Drivegreen [1].

The upcoming hypercar is expected to outshine its predecessor, which already boasts a lightning-fast acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds [2]. With a quad-motor system, each motor rated at 555 kW, the new model will deliver an impressive combined power output of approximately 3,000 to 3,019 horsepower (2,220 kW) [1][3][5]. This makes it one of the most powerful electric production cars globally, surpassing competitors like the Rimac Nevera and Lotus Evija [1][3][4].

The motors use BYD's latest-generation electric motor technology, capable of spinning at speeds over 30,000 rpm, the highest among production vehicles [1][2]. This cutting-edge efficiency and performance are expected to translate into a top speed of about 350 km/h (217 mph), slightly lower than the previous U9’s recorded top speed but still extremely high for electric hypercars [3][5].

Key specifications of the new hypercar include:

  • Power output: Approximately 3,000–3,019 metric horsepower (2,220 kW) from four 555 kW motors [1][3][5].
  • Motor technology: Latest BYD motors capable of rotational speeds exceeding 30,000 rpm [1][2].
  • Acceleration & speed: Exact acceleration times are not detailed, but the standard U9 is a supercar with extreme speed capabilities; the hypercar variant's top speed is officially 350 km/h, with an emphasis on track performance [3][5].
  • Design and aerodynamics: Incorporates advanced aerodynamics including six sets of multifunctional air ducts for cooling and airflow management, an adjustable four-position electric rear wing, and carbon fiber materials to optimize downforce and reduce drag [4].
  • Battery and electronics: Uses a high-performance LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery with fast charging capabilities and a Silicon Carbide (SiC) electronic control system for superior power management [4].

The new hypercar version also features the latest in motor technology, which BYD announced in March this year. The motors will be equipped with new Silicon Carbide power chips to handle high voltages and currents [6]. Charging the vehicle is expected to be quick, with the U9 able to charge from 30-80% in just 10 minutes [7].

As the EV market continues to grow, innovations like the BYD Yangwang U9 hypercar are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in electric vehicle technology. This new hypercar is a testament to BYD's commitment to advancing EV technology and reducing transport emissions.
