Ebb Carbon's Project Macoma Secures First-Ever NPDES Permit for Marine CO2 Removal

Ebb Carbon's Project Macoma has made history by securing the first-ever National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit under the Clean Water Act. The Washington State Department of Ecology granted this permit, marking a significant milestone for the innovative marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) project.

Project Macoma, launched at Port Angeles harbor in the United States, aims to capture and store up to 1,000 tonnes of atmospheric CO2 over two years. This temporary pilot project is part of the USA's Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP), targeting net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050.

Ebb Carbon, the company behind the project, has expressed gratitude for local support. CEO Ben Tarbell is proud to create a blueprint for responsible carbon removal. The company's technology has proven successful through previous test deployments in Sequim Bay.

With the historic NPDES permit, Project Macoma is set to make a substantial contribution to the United States' carbon reduction goals. Ebb Carbon's innovative mCDR technology, validated through successful tests, is poised to make a significant impact on atmospheric CO2 levels.
