Discussions with Artist Anna Terebelo, Led by the Editor
In the dynamic world of scripted television, Anna Terebelo has made a name for herself as a talented editor. Hailing from Farmington Hills, Michigan, Terebelo's career in the industry began over a decade ago when she moved to Los Angeles without a job. Her first role was as a post-production assistant, and her journey since then has been nothing short of remarkable.
One of Terebelo's first significant multi-camera projects was 'The Villains of Valley View,' where she earned her first co-editing and editing credits. This project marked the beginning of a successful career, leading to her work on shows like 'Marvel's Agents of Shield,' 'Cruel Summer,' 'American Horror Stories,' and 'XO, Kitty.'
When it comes to her toolkit, Terebelo relies heavily on the Avid Media Composer and the Boris FX Suite. In Avid, she uses media management tools to organise her workflow, timeline editing for arranging and trimming clips, and script sync to navigate through scripts and sync them with the video. For advanced visual effects, she turns to Boris FX Suite, using tools like Continuum for Optical Stabilizer and BCC Blur & Sharpen, Sapphire for Muzzle Flash effect, Shake effect, and various Blurs and Lens Flares.
In addition to her professional tools, Terebelo finds artistic inspiration in watching television and listening to movie scores. When she experiences creative burnout, she takes walks, listens to podcasts, and paints.
Preparing for a big project, Terebelo binge-watches related content to familiarise herself with the style and tone. When asked about her proudest work, she mentions 'Marvel's Agents of Shield' and 'The Villains of Valley View,' praising the great environment and the absolute best Showrunners, Chris Peterson and Bryan Moore, on the latter.
Looking back, Terebelo's advice to her younger self would be to be patient, work hard but maintain a work/life balance, and to go out for walks. If given the opportunity, she would love to collaborate with Wendy Hallam Martin, Stephen Spielberg, Tatiana Maslany, Quinta Brunson, and many more.
Some of Terebelo's favourite films and TV series include 'Brooklyn 99,' 'Friends,' 'Schitt's Creek,' 'Sex Education,' 'Shameless,' 'The Handmaid's Tale,' 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower,' 'Titanic,' 'I, Tonya,' 'Schindler's List,' 'Star Wars,' and 'Harry Potter.'
During long sessions, Terebelo stays energised with water, almonds, and office snacks like apple/peanut butter bites. Two indispensable keyboard shortcuts for her are command + Z (undo) and command + S (save).
As Anna Terebelo continues to make her mark in the industry, her dedication, creativity, and innovative use of tools like Avid Media Composer and Boris FX Suite are sure to keep her at the forefront of scripted television editing.
