Discussions Unfold on the Progression of Rail Baltica Project by Tyréns Representatives in Lithuania

Revamped Article:

Swedish design powerhouse, Tyréns, and its Lithuanian branch recently paid a visit to the Rail Baltica construction sites. These discussions with LTG Infra, the company responsible for implementing Rail Baltica in Lithuania, revolved around ongoing and upcoming works.

As revealed by Vytis Zalimas, the boss of LTG Infra, one of the major hurdles for Rail Baltica now is securing design resources for planning high-speed railway sections.

"Setting up a high-speed railway in the Baltic region, with zero prior experience, is tough. We're tackling it by partnering with international experts, beefing up in-house competencies within the LTG Group, and actively recruiting experts from all corners of the globe. This will help us speed up the project and guarantee its completion," said Zalimas.

Audrius Bunevicius, CEO of Tyrens Lietuva, engineering and design consultancy subsidiary of Tyréns Group, has mainly operated in the Swedish and UK markets until now.

"Lithuania's economic growth and the massive infrastructure investments underway indicate a need for cooperation beyond what we already have. While Tyrens Lietuva is the largest design services company in the country, boasting the most road, bridge, and railway experts, we still fall short in handling large-scale projects. To continue delivering the high-quality, timely services our clients expect, we've teamed up with our Swedish counterparts, benefiting from their knowledge, experience, and qualifications," said Bunevicius.

Currently, Tyrens Lietuva is working on land acquisition projects for Rail Baltica in Kaunas node and Panevežys node, and in collaboration with Atamis, on infrastructure maintenance depots in Kaunas and Panevežys.

According to updates, most special plans for Kaunas and Panevežys nodes, the section from Poland to Jiesia, and the special plan for the Kaunas-Vilnius section have been approved in 2024, with the latter expected to be finalized soon.

Preparation of these special plans enables the commencement of design activities, with the projected start of designer selection and design work in Lithuania planned for 2025. The major section to be designed is from Kaunas to the Lithuanian-Polish border. Tenders for regional stations and infrastructure maintenance depots will also be launched, along with continuing the design work on the Kaunas-Lithuania-Latvia border.

Overall, the Rail Baltica project is making commendable progress, but specific information about the roles of international design companies in Lithuania or the current recruitment status is scarce in the available data. The project's complexity suggests significant international involvement, but more detailed updates on this matter are required.

(For a clearer picture, one might want to consult with Rail Baltica stakeholders for more specific insights into the broader involvement and recruitment status of international design companies in Lithuania.)

  1. To bolster its capacity for handling large-scale projects, Tyrens Lietuva, a Lithuanian design services company, has collaborated with its Swedish counterparts, seeking expertise and knowledge in the field of industry, finance, and technology.
  2. As the Rail Baltica project advances, LTG Infra, the company responsible for implementing Rail Baltica in Lithuania, is actively recruiting experts from various global industries, including finance, technology, and design, to speed up the project and guarantee its completion.
