Deltarune's popular character Spamton is omnipresent, sparking a wave among Persona 3 fans who are transforming Japan's actual Port Island into a giant JRPG mural using a popular web app, causing pixel artists to conquer the globe digitally.

In an exciting development, the online collaborative pixel art platform, wplace.live, has become a dynamic hub for game-themed artworks, with contributions ranging from beloved characters to entire murals based on popular games.

The phenomenon began on August 6, 2025, when Twitter user @indigothegogo brought the app to public attention. Since then, users have been creating and discovering game-themed artwork on the map, such as characters from Deltarune, Pokemon, Persona, Elden Ring, and Spirited Away.

One of the most notable viral sensations on wplace.live is the character Spamton from Deltarune. His pixel art can be found widespread across many locations globally, to the point it appears near virtually every visited area on the map. A fan, Twitter user @notsakku, has been documenting the many appearances of Spamton on August 7, 2025.

Another popular game series represented on wplace.live is Persona. Fans have transformed real-life locations like Japan’s Port Island into JRPG-themed murals, showcasing vibrant game-inspired pixel art prowess. The location of Port Island on the map is being turned into a mural of Persona 3 references and drawings, with the artwork evolving significantly since August 7, 2025.

Other game franchises such as Pokemon and Fallout are also represented by community pixel artworks, with tributes situated in notable global cities like Las Vegas and Florence. The map features artwork from various locations around the world, including Brazil, which is currently the artistic hotspot on wplace.live, with 618,494,181 pixels painted (and counting).

The community collaborates via Discord and uses tools, scripts, and image-to-pixel converters designed specifically for Wplace.live to aid in creating coordinated artworks. Despite the high pixel painting activity, there is still plenty of room on the map overall for more artwork.

In an interesting twist, the JRPG's towering dungeon Tartarus is being built on the map in the corner, while the map also features the Persona 3 Reload box art close by. The website's leaderboard indicates that users may not be able to cover the entire world with artwork on wplace.live, but the expansive map still offers plenty of space for new creations.

The upcoming life sim RPG, Witchbrook, expected to be released later this year, features pixel art visuals, adding another layer of excitement to the game-themed artworks on wplace.live. The viral web app continues to draw in gamers and artists alike, transforming the world map into a living, breathing canvas of game-themed pixel art.
