Continuous Test Results of VW ID.3 Unveiled - Conclusive Evidence Revealed
Volkswagen ID.3 Shines in ADAC's Four-Year Durability Test
The Volkswagen ID.3 has proven its mettle in a rigorous four-year durability test conducted by the Automobile Club of Germany (ADAC). The test, which covered an impressive 160,000 kilometers, was designed to objectively evaluate the high-voltage battery's durability and the overall quality of the ID.3.
The test results were overwhelmingly positive. After 160,000 kilometers, the ID.3's 77 kWh battery retained an impressive 91% of its original capacity. This level of battery health far exceeded Volkswagen's warranty guarantee of 70% capacity retention over eight years or 160,000 km. The test conditions were challenging, including frequent DC fast charging (over 40% of charges) and regular full charges to 100%, sometimes with the car left at full charge for days—practices usually considered detrimental to battery longevity.
Despite these demanding conditions, battery degradation was minimal, demonstrating the high quality and durability of the ID.3’s battery system. No issues were found with the body, suspension, or steering of the ID.3 after 160,000 kilometers, indicating excellent build quality even after intense, long-term testing.
Software updates during the test period improved charging efficiency and performance, particularly in cold temperatures. Charging performance increased to up to 170 kW through updates, and energy consumption at low temperatures between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius was reduced. The integrated e-route planner was also updated to consider traffic conditions and forecasts for faster destination arrival.
Martin Sander, Volkswagen's sales chief, hailed these results, stating that they demonstrate the high quality of their ID models. This is the first test of its kind for an ID series model, making the ID.3's performance all the more impressive.
In conclusion, the ADAC test supports that the Volkswagen ID.3 maintains strong battery health and robust overall vehicle quality over extended use, providing confidence to potential owners about the long-term durability and reliability of the model and its battery technology.
