In a significant move to bolster electric vehicle (EV) adoption and improve charging infrastructure, Tesla has announced plans for an ambitious expansion of its Supercharger network across Canada in 2025. This expansion will see over 50 new Supercharger stations added nationwide, with more than 630 charging stalls, making long-distance and urban EV travel more convenient throughout the country.

The expansion includes the deployment of new Supercharger stations in strategic locations, such as Grande Prairie, Alberta, and Canmore. Tesla has already started construction on these stations, with the Grande Prairie Supercharger station located near Highway 43, serving both local and through-traffic. The station, which will feature four V4 Supercharger stalls, is part of Tesla's EV corridor, connecting existing Supercharger sites in Valleyview and Whitecourt.

The Canmore Supercharger will bring the total number of stalls in the town to 24, filling a key gap for drivers heading toward Fort McMurray, Jasper, or northern British Columbia. Each prefabricated supercharger unit (PSU) used in these builds is self-contained and outfitted with up to four stalls pre-assembled, allowing Tesla to bring a new station from delivery to operation in as little as four days using this approach.

Tesla's expansion goes beyond its own vehicles; brands like Kia will gain access starting January 15, 2025, with adapters enabling non-Tesla EVs to use the network. This move increases the utility and reach of the expanded infrastructure, making it more accessible to a wider range of EV drivers.

While progress is being made, there are isolated challenges, such as the recent closure of a Supercharger station at CrossIron Mills near Calgary due to lease disputes. Tesla is managing this by directing users to alternate nearby stations. This highlights some regional operational hurdles during this growth phase, but the company remains committed to improving charging access for EV drivers across Canada.

By mid-2025, Tesla’s global Supercharger network is expected to have about 7,500 stations with more than 70,000 connectors, with North America—including Canada—being a significant deployment region. This expansion supports accelerating EV adoption by improving fast charging availability and interoperability with multiple EV brands, making long-distance and urban EV travel more convenient throughout the country.
