Chinese official Han Kun brings on board a DCM specialist from A&O Shearman in Hong Kong.

Han Kun Law Offices, a prominent Chinese law firm, announced the hiring of Allen (Yilun) Zhang as a partner in Hong Kong. Previously, Zhang held a senior associate position at A&O Shearman. The new recruit is recognized as a debt capital markets expert.

Allen (Yilun) Zhang, a seasoned debt capital markets specialist with over two centuries of experience, has joined Han Kun Law Offices as a partner in their Hong Kong office. Prior to this move, Zhang held the position of senior associate at A&O Shearman (formerly Allen & Overy).

Throughout his career, Zhang has advised on more than 200 debt securities transactions, demonstrating his extensive expertise in this field. His clientele spans both issuer and underwriter clients, a testament to his versatility and broad industry knowledge.

Zhang's expertise lies primarily in debt capital markets, and his contributions to this sector are substantial. He has advised on groundbreaking transactions such as the first Yulan bond, the first MCSD-cleared bond, the first Blue bond in Asia, and more. He has also been instrumental in the first sustainability-linked loan relinked bond and the first bond transaction to be cleared through both CMU and Euroclear.

One of Zhang's most notable achievements includes advising the People's Bank of China on the first establishment of a central bank bill offering programme in Hong Kong and the issuance of central bank bills. He has also advised the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China in all its overseas bond offerings for six consecutive years.

In addition, Zhang has worked on the first TONA-linked pound sterling-denominated floating rate note issued by a non-sovereign issuer and was part of the team that worked on the first offshore bond issued by a PRC local government.

With Zhang's addition, Han Kun Law Offices' Hong Kong office now boasts 25 lawyers, eight of whom are partners. The firm has strengthened its debt capital markets practice with this strategic appointment, aiming to provide even more comprehensive and high-quality services to its clients.
