Geely Introduces the EX5: A New Electric SUV for the UK Market

Geely, the Chinese car manufacturer known for owning brands such as Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Lynk & Co, Proton, and LEVC, is making a significant move into the UK market with the launch of a new car under its own badge. The new electric SUV, named the EX5, is set to challenge established models like the Skoda Enyaq, Kia EV6, Ford Puma Gen-E, Leapmotor C10, and BYD Atto 2.

The EX5 will be produced under the Geely brand and marks the brand's global market expansion, including the UK, Australia, Southeast Asia, and other regions. The car is expected to be a key part of Geely's product offensive, with more models anticipated for British buyers in the near future.

The mid-size all-electric SUV comes in three trim levels: SE, Pro, and Max. The entry-level SE, starting at £31,990, is equipped with 18-inch alloys, adaptive cruise control, heated seats and steering wheel, automatic wipers, keyless entry, LED headlights with high beam assist, a 15.4-inch central screen paired with a 360-degree camera system, and more.

The mid-spec Pro, starting at £33,990, adds 19-inch wheels along with an alternative interior color scheme. The top-of-the-range Max, priced at £36,990, includes a panoramic glass roof, powered tailgate, ambient lighting, ventilated and massaging front seats, a head-up display, an upgraded audio system, and other features.

The EX5 is set to go on sale in October 2023. One of the standout features of the car is its impressive charging time. With a Cargurus A3 home wallbox charger included in the purchase, the EX5 can charge from 10-80% in just over 30 minutes. Geely demonstrates its confidence in the EX5 with an eight-year warranty.

The EX5's 60.2kWh battery offers up to 267 miles of WLTP range. Initially similar to the Australian-market model due to both countries sharing right-hand drive, the EX5 will receive adjustments based on feedback from Lotus for better suitability to UK buyers.

Geely's entry into the UK market with the EX5 is an exciting development for electric vehicle enthusiasts. With its competitive pricing, impressive charging time, and impressive range, the EX5 is poised to make a significant impact in the UK electric vehicle market.
