ChatGPT users now have more control over response speed thanks to OpenAI's latest Thinking mode update.
OpenAI, the leading artificial intelligence research laboratory, has recently released an update for its premium ChatGPT subscribers, providing them with more control over the response speed for complex questions.
The update was spearheaded by OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, in response to subscriber feedback requesting faster responses without compromising quality. This update marks a significant step forward, empowering users to customize their ChatGPT experience according to their needs.
At the heart of this update is the redesigned personalization page, which combines several features into a single, user-friendly interface. Users can now choose from five personas based on their task or mood: Default, Cynical, Robot, Listener, or Nerd. Additionally, premium users can select from four modes: Light, Standard, Extended, and Heavy.
The Light mode offers quick, surface-level answers, while the Heavy mode prioritizes the most detailed answers, even if they take longer to generate. The Extended mode, now optional, produces thorough but slow responses. Pro users also have the advantage of custom instructions, memory settings, and personality options.
Until now, premium users had no control over the speed of ChatGPT's detailed answers. However, this update now offers time controls, which include Standard, Extended, Light, and Heavy response modes, collectively known as Thinking mode time options.
Ashish Singh, the Chief Copy Editor at the platform, has been instrumental in this update. Fluent in Geek language and experienced with tech jargon since 2020, Singh's contributions have played a pivotal role in the development of this update. His interests outside of work include virtual racing and planning road trips to test in-car tech.
It's important to note that this update does not affect the default setting for non-premium users. Furthermore, time controls for ChatGPT are only available on the web version, not on Android or iOS.
OpenAI has rolled out this update to bring a more personalized and customizable experience for its premium ChatGPT subscribers, demonstrating its commitment to continuous improvement and user satisfaction.
