Centennial city Traffic Monitoring boosted by RGB Spectrum's advanced systems

In Centennial, CO, the Traffic Management Center (TMC) boasts a bustling population of over 108,000 residents, ensuring smooth traffic flow and supporting city operations like snow management. The TMC introduces initiatives such as Centennial 101, providing residents with a peek behind the curtain of city departments.

To tackle its operational needs, Centennial turned to RGB Spectrum's Galileo video wall processor. The city requested a system that could manage live feeds from 60 CCTV cameras, boost situational awareness, and streamline content management for real-time operations and training purposes. A dependable, flexible solution capable of displaying numerous video streams simultaneously was essential. Operators needed real-time monitoring of critical intersections and road conditions. Beyond daily operations, the TMC required a tool for public presentations and internal reviews, offering intuitive control of the video wall through a desktop interface.

With planning for the new operational center set in motion in 2021, Centennial evaluated various options before deciding to follow the blueprint of neighboring Douglas County, which had already implemented RGB Spectrum's Galileo system in its TMC. This decision was driven by positive feedback on Galileo's reliability, flexibility, and performance.

Collaborating with Momentum Group, a manufacturer's representative firm in the Rocky Mountain region, Centennial's TMC was set to benefit from RGB Spectrum's Galileo video wall processor on multiple fronts. The processor offered a hassle-free solution for monitoring multiple video streams in real-time and allowed operators to effortlessly move content between the desktop interface and the video wall. The city highly valued Galileo's robust design, ensuring continuous 24/7 operation, and its scalability to accommodate future growth.

At the heart of Centennial's TMC is the Galileo processor, which powers a Planar display showcasing live video feeds from 60 CCTV cameras. Operators, led by Libby Nordeen, Traffic Management Center operator, and her team, utilize the system daily to monitor traffic conditions and improve citywide situational awareness. During inclement weather, this capability has proven especially beneficial, enabling snow crews to assess road conditions and prioritize efforts using live video feeds.

As part of broader goals for public engagement and education, the Galileo processor also supports Centennial's events like Centennial 101, where residents learn about city operations. The TMC uses the video wall to demonstrate traffic monitoring and real-time operations, allowing operators to create dynamic and engaging presentations for visitors and officials alike.

Centennial's plans for the future include expanding the TMC's capabilities, encompassing enhanced incident management and increased system-to-system communication with neighboring jurisdictions such as Englewood, Greenwood Village, and Littleton, which also use the same traffic signal platform.

Since installing RGB Spectrum's Galileo video wall processor, Centennial has witnessed significant improvements in traffic monitoring operations. Operators now reap the benefits of improved situational awareness and streamlined decision-making. The seamless integration with desktop control has simplified workflows, enabling more efficient management of daily monitoring and presentations.

Nordeen concluded, "We've been beyond satisfied with the system reliability and functionality. Galileo provides us with the means to monitor real-time traffic and engage with the public in one powerful platform."

The Galileo video wall processor from RGB Spectrum, installed in Centennial's Traffic Management Center (TMC), facilitates data-and-cloud-computing by managing live feeds from 60 CCTV cameras, enhancing situational awareness, and streamlining content management for real-time operations and training purposes. Furthermore, the TMC uses this technology to feature Centennial events, like Centennial 101, via the video wall, showcasing traffic monitoring and real-time operations to the public for educational purposes.
