BYD's Super e-Platform Revolutionizes EV Charging with 1000kW Power and 400km in 5 Minutes
BYD has unveiled the Super e-Platform, a revolutionary electric-vehicle architecture designed to match the refuelling speeds of conventional cars. The platform boasts an impressive one megawatt (1000kW) charging power, the highest peak for mass-production EVs.
The Super e-Platform utilises an 'all-domain kilovolt high-voltage architecture', enabling ultra-high voltage and high current charging. This technology, combined with BYD's new generation of automotive-grade silicon carbide (SiC) power chips rated up to 1500V, allows for rapid charging.
The platform offers a staggering two kilometres of range per second. In just five minutes, drivers can enjoy a 'flash charge' providing 400km of driving range. To support this, BYD plans to build over 4000 megawatt flash-charging stations across China.
The Super e-Platform also introduces 'dual-gun charging' technology, upgrading existing fast chargers to ultra-fast chargers and superchargers to flash chargers. This ensures compatibility with current infrastructure while pushing charging speeds to new heights.
The platform's initial models will feature a single power-motor output of 580kW, enabling a top speed of over 300km/h. This is made possible by the Flash Charging Battery, which has an ultra-fast ion channel for a maximum charging current of 1000A and a maximum charging rate of 10C.
BYD's Super e-Platform marks a significant step towards eliminating 'range anxiety' for EV drivers. With plans to build over 4000 megawatt flash-charging stations, BYD aims to make EV charging as fast and convenient as refuelling a gasoline car. The platform's impressive charging speeds and power output pave the way for a new era of electric vehicles.
