BYD surpasses a significant milestone of one million units sold for Smart Driving Edition vehicles.

In a significant move for the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry, BYD, the world's largest electric vehicle maker by market value, has announced its largest-scale smart driving over-the-air (OTA) update for its Smart Driving Edition models. The update, expected to roll out in the coming weeks, aims to enhance features across these models, which include vehicles equipped with the God's Eye system.

The update brings a host of improvements, most notably the advancement of BYD's smart parking feature to SAE Level 4 autonomy. This level of autonomy enables drivers to take their eyes off the road unless prompted by the system, offering more advanced driver assistance and potentially fully autonomous parking maneuvers.

BYD has taken full responsibility for any losses associated with the new smart parking feature, promising to cover damages without needing to go through insurance companies. Users can contact BYD's after-sales team directly for handling incidents.

The God's Eye platform, which powers these features, uses advanced perception technologies including lidar, chips, and AI to enhance smart driving capabilities. As of early July 2025, BYD has sold over one million God's Eye-equipped EVs, marking a significant software milestone for the company.

The update also promises safer and smarter experiences, but further details are not provided. Since the rollout of the Smart Driving Edition updates, most of BYD's models on sale have been Smart Driving Editions.

In June, BYD sold 382,585 new energy vehicles, the highest figure so far this year. In the first half of the year, BYD sold 2,145,954 NEVs, marking a year-on-year increase of 33.04 percent. The company has focused a significant portion of its efforts on software this year, reflecting its commitment to continuous innovation.

The Smart Driving Edition updates were rolled out for various models on February 10, but no specific details about the updates for each model are provided. A new variant of the popular BYD Seagull has been added, priced as low as RMB 69,800 ($9,730). Discounts have also been offered for non-Smart Driving Edition cars to clear inventory of older models.

BYD's smart driving systems are referred to as God's Eye. The God's Eye C system uses DiPilot 100, a camera-based visual solution for BYD's more affordable models. The God's Eye B system uses DiPilot 300, which employs one or two LiDARs and is primarily used for the Denza brand and some of BYD's high-end models. The top-tier God's Eye A system uses DiPilot 600, which employs three LiDARs and is primarily used for the ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang.

BYD trades on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol 1211 and on the OTC Markets under BYDDY. For more information about BYD and its products, visit www.byd.com.
