Staggering Investment: Warren Buffet's Portfolio Shows He's Put More Money in This Stock Than in Apple

Buffett pours billions of dollars into a particular stock, investing more than he did in Apple.

In a remarkable journey spanning over half a century, Warren Buffett has turned Berkshire Hathaway from a modest textile factory founded in 1839 into one of the world's most valuable companies. Today, Berkshire Hathaway is part of the exclusive trillion-dollar company club, joining the ranks of the biggest global corporations.

Börsenmedien AG, a leading media company, developed an index and holds the rights to it, which has been instrumental in tracking Berkshire Hathaway's meteoric rise. The company's market capitalization, representing the total value of all its outstanding shares, now stands at over $1 trillion.

Warren Buffett's investment in Berkshire Hathaway, initially made in 1962, has been twice as much as his investment in Apple. Since taking over the reins of Berkshire Hathaway in 1965, Buffett has generated returns that consistently outperformed the market. In the past six years alone, he has invested more in Berkshire Hathaway shares than in his absolute favorite stock, Apple.

Berkshire Hathaway's success is evident in the significant buybacks worth around $77.8 billion approved for its shares over the past six years. In comparison, an initial investment of $1,000 made at the time Buffett took over Berkshire Hathaway would be worth a staggering $42 million today.

Warren Buffett's investment in Apple, however, was driven by several key reasons that align with his value investing principles and confidence in Apple's business model. Buffett's large Apple stake was based on Apple's strong and durable competitive advantages, efficient cash flow generation, and attractive valuation at the time of purchase.

Despite selling a significant portion of Berkshire's Apple shares recently, Apple remains Berkshire’s largest individual stock holding by a substantial margin. The reduction in Apple investment may be due to expectations of higher future corporate income tax rates or portfolio diversification reasons.

As Berkshire Hathaway continues to grow, it is expected to catch up soon to the other trillion-dollar companies.

Over the course of his tenure at Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett has achieved an average annual return of 19.8 percent, making him one of the most successful investors in history.
