BMW's 2026 i5 model boasts an extended range, fresh additions, and a stylish new color option, Frozen Portimao Blue.

The BMW i5, the latest addition to BMW's electric vehicle lineup, made its debut in May 2023 and hit the roads in October of the same year. This model is part of BMW's BMW i sub-brand, offering a blend of luxury, performance, and sustainability.

Power and Performance

The BMW i5 comes in three models: the i5 eDrive40, the i5 xDrive40, and the range-topping i5 M60. The i5 eDrive40 and xDrive40 models deliver 335 horsepower and 389 horsepower, respectively, while the M60 packs a punch with 590 horsepower. The i5 M60 can complete the 0-60 mph sprint in a swift 3.7 seconds.

For charging, the i5 supports up to 11 kW on AC power for home or Level 2 setups. It also offers DC fast charging, which tops out at an impressive 205 kW.

Tech and Comfort

Standard tech features in the BMW i5 include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, MyBMW app integration, and natural voice commands that sync seamlessly with your smartphone. The Premium Package adds a 360-degree camera, self-parking powers, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, and a crisp head-up display.

At the heart of the i5's tech is BMW's iDrive 8.5 system. The vehicle also comes with Harman Kardon audio system as standard, and drivers can enjoy revised ambient lighting and new Merino leather color schemes.

Range and Efficiency

The estimated range for the standard i5 eDrive40 is 278-310 miles, an increase from last year's estimate of between 271 and 295 miles. This improved range is a testament to BMW's commitment to efficiency and sustainability.

Rivals and Pricing

The BMW i5's closest rivals are the Lucid Air and the Genesis Electrified G80. The 2026 BMW i5 pricing remains unchanged from 2025, with the i5 eDrive40 starting at $67,100, the xDrive40 at $70,100, and the range-topping M60 at $84,100.

A new Frozen Portimao Blue paint option is available for the 2026 BMW i5, adding an extra touch of elegance to this already striking vehicle.

In terms of driver-assistance tech, the 2026 BMW i5 carries over the suite from the gas-powered 5 Series sibling, including Frontal Collision Warning, Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane Keeping Assistant, and BMW Assist. The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds Active Driving Assistant Pro for partially automated driving and Highway Assistant with the new Active Lane Change function.

The BMW i5: a blend of power, technology, and sustainability, setting a new standard in electric vehicle innovation.
