BMW unveils the 2026 iX3, the initial Neue Klasse SUV model offering a remarkable 497-mile range and rapid 400 kW charging capacity.
The automotive world is abuzz with excitement as BMW unveils its latest creation, the iX3. This electric SUV is more than just a vehicle; it's a symbol of BMW's commitment to innovation and sustainability, marking the beginning of the company's Neue Klasse era.
Set to enter production in November at BMW's new Debrecen plant in Hungary, the iX3 is poised to make a significant impact. The SUV will be available in a variety of colours, including a striking Ocean Wave Blue and a new Polarized Grey.
Under the hood, the iX3 packs a punch, producing an impressive 463 horsepower and 645 Nm (475 lb-ft) of torque. This powerhouse can accelerate from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in a swift 4.9 seconds and boasts a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h).
The iX3's design is as modern as its performance. Its headlights feature vertical LEDs and horizontal light strips, lending it a sleek, futuristic look. The rear taillights stretch farther inward than before, mirroring the Vision Neue Klasse X design. The iX3 also features a retro-inspired vertical grille with lighting instead of chrome, adding a touch of nostalgia to its contemporary design.
Inside, the iX3 boasts BMW's largest-ever touchscreen, measuring 17.9 inches, and a panoramic vision display. Cargo space is generous, with 520 liters (18.3 cu ft) available and expandable to 1,750 liters (61.8 cu ft) with the rear seats folded.
The iX3 is slightly longer, wider, but a bit lower than its predecessor, measuring 4782 mm (188.2 in) long, 1895 mm (74.6 in) wide, and 1635 mm (64.3 in) tall. Its marginally elongated 2897 mm (114 in) wheelbase provides more space inside.
The iX3 is not just a cosmetic upgrade; it's a complete overhaul. It introduces BMW's sixth-generation electric drive system, a cutting-edge digital cockpit, and a new design language. The SUV also boasts a drag coefficient of 0.24, improved by its cleaner design and aero-optimized wheels.
BMW expects Europe and the U.S. to be the iX3's largest markets. The China-specific version of the iX3 will arrive in 2026 from Shenyang. The BMW iX3 will start sales in the USA in summer 2026 and will be produced at the BMW Group's new plant in Debrecen, Hungary, with production starting in late 2025.
BMW claims Neue Klasse is the single largest investment in the company's history. The iX3, with its innovative design, powerful performance, and commitment to sustainability, is a testament to this investment. It's more than just an electric SUV; it's a statement of BMW's vision for the future.
