Baltimore's Fort McHenry Channel Fully Operational Again; Brunswick Port Sets Records

The Fort McHenry Federal Channel in Baltimore is now fully operational after the last steel truss blocking it was removed. Meanwhile, the port of Brunswick in Georgia continues to thrive, handling record volumes and attracting new customers.

The removal of the final steel truss in Baltimore has opened up the channel, allowing the port to resume full volumes. This development is a significant milestone for the port, which has been working towards this goal for some time.

In Georgia, the port of Brunswick is experiencing unprecedented growth. Last year, it handled approximately 740,000 cars and light trucks, making it the third busiest news port in North America. This impressive figure is a testament to the port's efficiency and capacity. In April alone, the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) handled a record 80,600 units of ro-ro cargo, marking a 44% increase from the same period last year.

The Brunswick port has also seen an uptick in vehicle exports, with Asian news imports remaining strong. The port's top customer by volume is Caterpillar, highlighting its importance to the region's economy. Due to the Baltimore port's recent challenges, approximately 9,000 passenger vehicles were diverted to Brunswick in April, further boosting its numbers. The port's expansion, including new equipment processing centers with Wallenius Wilhelmsen, is attracting new customers and encouraging existing ones to increase their capacity.

The removal of the final steel truss in Baltimore has allowed the port to resume full operations, while the port of Brunswick continues to set records and attract new customers. The Brunswick port's growth, driven by strong Asian imports and vehicle exports, is a positive sign for the region's economy. With ongoing expansions and new partnerships, the port is well-positioned for continued success.
